Bill Hardy

Long time community servant, Bill became a member of Holman UMC, under the leadership of Rev. LL White, a church active in social justice/civil rights movements. It was because of his interest in sports that he asked Rev. White if he could renew Holman’s participation in a church basketball league, to which he responded yes. Bill coached youth in OWACA for over 40 years. Many of Holman’s youth, now adults have participated in OWACA, engaging in Christian fellowship through sports. Biography

William and Sandra Hardy

 

Sandra (Sandi) and William (Bill) Hardy are transplants from the Midwest (St. Louis, Mo.), where their families put a strong emphasis on community engagement, which resulted in their involvement in the Boycotts, Sit-ins, and marching all in the name of social justice.

It was only fitting that  Bill coached youth in OWACA for over 40 years. Many of Holman’s youth, now adults have participated in OWACA, engaging in Christian fellowship through sports.

Professionally, Bill has a BA and MA in Education from Cal State Dominguez. He worked in sales, for the chamber of commerce and aerospace at the beginning of his career.  He was a teacher/ counselor for LAUSD until he retired. Bill, has been a member of Holman for (50yr.) fifty years, and during that time he has served as an active liturgist, chaired the Finance Committee, chaired the Stewardship Committee, attended Adult Sunday School, and completed (5) levels of Disciples Classes. Bill also worked as a part-time educator for the Children, Youth and Family Collaborative (CYFC) a ministry of Holman United Methodist Church.

Sandra has been a professional nurse for more than 50 years. She served as Director of Surgical Services at Cedars Sinai and Children’s Hospital. Beyond her professional career, as a longtime member of Holman church, she’s taught 1-5 Disciple classes, served as Lay and Co-lay Leader, worked with the Jobs for Kids Program, worked with the West LA College Upward Bound Program, served as a member of the Finance Committee, assisted with the Store House Ministry, served as a chairperson on the board of CYFC, and served on the SPPRC. Currently as ad-hoc member she assists organizational events such as the Christmas gift program.

As a couple the Hardy’s have participated in the Beta Couples Ministry, have been youth counselors, taught Youth Sunday School, and headed fundraising efforts to raise scholarships for Africa University (enabling 6 young women to obtain their bachelor’s degrees). Bill and Sandi have also assisted with countless ad-hoc events and programs at the church.

Sandra and Bill have been married for 45 years, have one son, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
